My favourite illustrators

As a summer uni project we were supposed to create a research sketchbook for all the classic fashion illustrators. As much as I appreciate the works of Rene Gruau, Francis Berthaud, Bernard Blossac (some of my personal favourites), I've found that Fashion illustration has moved forward. However, I do agree that we should know where fashion illustration started and who were the real masters of the trade back in the day, as they have set the margins for us to break. I have assembled some of my favourite illustrators and the ones who really get me excited about fashion imagery.

KELLY SMITH

Smith is definitely one of my favourites. She is extremely talented and really knows how to use the pencil. Some might argue that her mind is not as creative as other illustrators because of her realistic approach. I think she knows exactly how to work it. Even though the images of her girls are life like, I still find the pieces magical.

HELLOVON

Hellovon's work is outstanding, breathtaking and magical. I find myself lost in his pieces. His pencil work is undoubtedly genius.

AMELIE HAGARDT

I am in love with Hagardts style. Her composition is amazing and the emotion and movement is overpowering. When I look at her work I feel like I can do anything. I am definitely inspired by her pieces and it makes me want to create work on the same level.

SARA SINGH

Singh's use of ink, colour and fine liner works perfectly. Her composition is so well executed. I am stunned by the beauty of her pieces.

DAVID BRAY

Where do I start?....Bray's images are breathtaking. I find myself lost when viewing them. His use of fine liner is exquisite. More often than not an illustration should be getting a message or an emotion over to the reader. Whether this is done through eccentric visuals or just basic shapes we should be reading something from the image. Bray knows exactly how use his eccentric style, when i look at his images I don't feel overwhelmed becasue there is so much going on, I feel quite the opposite. His images are magical.

ALBERTO SEVESO

Seveso's style is digital at its best. I love his pieces because they are created with such a simple method but are excecuted to perfection.

DARREL REES

I really like Rees's style. He uses a mixture of collage, ink and a touch of his own pure creative genius. When you look at his work, you can see there is a message waiting to be read.

NICK WHITE

White's style is genius to me. I like the intricate detailing of his work. I think every illustrator should have a fine liner in their art box right now.

BEN CAMPBELL

Campbells style is not typlical of the illustration world today. His images are surreal, I feel slightly intimidated when viewing his work. These images are my favourite. I like his mixed media methods. I am not usually a fan of futuritic visuals, however Campbells balance makes me very interested.
